NM,Mule Deer Unit 32,33,34

I'm thining of putting in for a non-resident mule deer tag in one or all of these units. I was hoping to get some input since I've never hunted any of these units. Any input would be awesome. If you doing research on these areas and want to compare finding let me know.

P.S. Was also thinking of putting in for the Colin Nebblett in unit 54/55 any input on that ?

Unit 34 is almost all National Forest land. I have scouted the area before while Turkey hunting. There seems to be plenty of deer out there.

I'm planning on an Elk hunt this year in the same unit so if i see anything while scouting, I will let you know. Big smile

That would be great. Its really hard to decide what to put in for but that helps.

If any other first time NM mule deer hunters are doing research let me know and we can trade info.

I'm still bugging Barry Hale, the deer program manager. He's supposed to have New Mexico's first ever deer populations estimates out any day now.

It would be nice if it came out before April 7th.

The first time I talked to him about it he said it would be out in early March. But since it's their first go with the deer model, I've got to assume they would be doing a lot of tweaking and they probably don't have enough data from past years to test it very well. But you gotta start somewhere.

Thats true. I wouldnt use the herd estimate as the deciding factor in my research.....but it would be nice if it backed up what found by looking at all the other data New mexico puts out. I really have been having a blast crunching numbers and learning about how things work in their state. It might even be sad when I put my application in. That is unless I get drawn.

I put in for 32 Muzzleloader as my first choice thise year. I've always gone bow. I used to always hunt Unit 37. But, being from Roswell makes Unit 32 nice. Not sure what weapon you'd be using. Hope you're able to get a tag.
