NM Unit 43

Has anyone ever hunted elk in New mexico's unit 43?

I've noticed that there's only a 5 day rifle season with few tags available.

Any info will be appretiated. Wink

Unit 43 Hunt

Hello, that is a big unit.  The area has a lot of roads that lead to private land but there is plenty of public also, probably more than you will cover in the few days of your hunt.  You did not say what you drew for because the game is dispersed in different areas of the Unit.  It is an easy hunt there are a few canyons but mostly flat land.

Hey, My brother and I are in

Hey,
My brother and I are in the Air Force and recently moved to New Mexico. We have hunted Whitetail our whole life but never Elk. We drew Unit 43 and I've heard and seen how huge the area is. We have done some scouting but don't know where exactly to start. If anyone could point is in a general area would be extremely helpful. I know the heard is small and sparse. Anything helps, Thanks

Going to need some luck

The elk hunt in 43 is not for the new guy when it comes to elk huntin.  the herd is pretty small and and scarted.  it is also a lot of private land.  if you have time i would plan on scouting as much as you can, or call a outfitter.  sorry for the news.
