15

15 is a great unit no doubt but I think just about any hunt during the peak of rut is worth looking into a little more.  You can only shoot one bull so you do need 1,000s of elk running around just one you can put down.  I am starting to learn that while hunting 16D each year would be great I am not going to shoot anyting if I do not have a tag.

Try Centerfire Bog area! Good luck and the burn area is probably recovering by now.

15 is my personal favorite spot to hunt in NM. No kidding, last year in 10 days, pre-rut, we could've taken no less than 20 bulls and 50 cows. That place is littered with elk. Slaugther mesa (near Quemado lake) is known for its abundance of animals. I like the northern region just south of quemado. Just get in there... Hunt those canyons and draws. You'll see elk. Lot's of water. Let me know if you want some specifics.

Going to hunt unit 15 on the 23rd. First time there for me but 3rd year for my dad. he's still getting to know the area. I would appreciate any info on some good spots. My uncle who will be going with us to hunt as well scouted the area yesterday and called in a big bull about 80 yards. Would of been a great shot for him he says. anyways, IM me if you wouldn't mind sharing some info with me. I'd appreciate it. Thanks

The bulls love to hang around Fox Mountain in Unit 15, that area burned up a few years ago and seems to draw in both Elk and Muley's. Unit 34 is also pretty good, try areas like Weed, Sacramento (Hay Canyon Rd), areas north of Timberon and northeast of Mayhill for some nice bulls and cows, if you looking for some monster muley's try south of Weed, Mule Canyon Rd. east of Mayhill and the river southeast of Timberon along the canyon (national forest road 5549), there’s also some Barbary Sheep down there too. Sacramento also has a pretty good population of Whitetails, nice cinnamon coats to them.
