NM unit 15

Any of you guys ever hunt this area for elk? Just wondering what to expect for the first muzzy hunt. Also does anyone know if there are many bears in that unit? Kind of thinking about getting a bear tag to have in the pocket just in case... Last one, does anyone know if there's a place to pick up maps that shows land ownership (the public vs. private boundaries, specifically), or does a guy have to go to each county office and pick up a plat book? Thanks.

which hunt did you draw i drew the late muzzleloader maybe if you put somthing in the nm forum you have better luck on info

Hunting Tip: Use the Hide

Over the years I have seen several elk and deer hides left in the woods by hunters and I have to wonder why they do this? I fully understand and agree about getting the hide off the animal as soon as possible to cool the meat, but why not pack out the hide with you and use it? As far as I know there are no state laws that require you to take the hide home, but to me why waste such a beautiful part of the animal? Some might think they have no use for the hide or it costs too much to tan....
