I know this is and old post but I just got back from 16E
I just finished a muzzleloader hunt on the 18th of Oct in 16E. I shot a small 6x6 but pretty nice. I went unguided and it was the second time I drew out on that hunt the first time my buddy shot a 5X5. Its a heavy hunted area by outfitters and there are some monster bulls. We saw a large 7X7 and 6x6 opening morning but couldn't get close. The pelona mountains are in the middle of 16E and they are really rough so if your not in shape I recommend some conditioning prior to arriving or going guided on horse back. There is something about the look and feel of a bolt action rifle with a walnut stock that pleases me. Call me old fashioned, but the character of the rifle I choose to own is equally as important to me as how that rifle performs.
I’ll be the first to admit that the lack of weight in a carbon fiber stock is awfully nice when chasing elk in high country and that any synthetic could help a bit when mother natured decides to rain on your parade. My own preference, however, is to...
