A nice "gift"
My Step-Father-In-Law does not hunt, but his father did. He has a son that does not hunt either. Anyway, he has 2 guns laying around that he does not really shoot. He's been asking my if I knew anyone that wanted to buy the Marlin 30-30 lever action he has. He wanted somewhere around $200 for it. I told him I'd ask my wife, cause that's the first rifle I ever owned, and actually still use it in Vermont.

On Thanksgiving I was talking about it and looking at it at their house. He told me he'd just give it to me, I just had to buy a couple of boxes of .308 for his other gun. He wouldn't even count it as a Christmas gift..... Thumbs up

Kinda cool. Can't really use it out here, it's more of a brush gun for back east, but it's always good to have another gun, right?????  Yes

Family gun

It's ALWAYS good to get/have another gun (unless you're from N.J.). That 30/30 might just surprise you. Get you a decent 1-4, 4X 0r 2-7 scope and some LE (LeverEvolution) ammunition and you'll be good to 225 yds. I can smell the butterflied backstrap steaks frying already..... Thumbs up

What a great gift.  Should be a real good shooting gun.  Not the best range but definetly accurate.  have fun shooting it.

that's a great story and congrats. Wish I could find a deal like that but it looks like I am going to have to just buy one. no one else in my family is really into like I am. honestly though is there any round historically that has taken more deer? a little off topic but just curious.

best deer killer

Well, I've heard some say that the old 44-40 has killed more animals AND humans than any other cartridge. One of the very first(if not the first) to be chambered in both a 6 gun and a carbine. A bit before my time, however. Although there's been lots of 30/30s bought and used, it still only had a dozen year head start on the venerable '06. For my money, I'd go with either of them, but doubt we'll ever really know.  Confused
