New Years Day solo hunt

Was in bed snoozing by 9 pm New Years Eve to get up and hunt next morning. Better then waking up with a hang over I figured. Called in a coyote on each of my first three stands and decked em. 2 with the Mossberg and 3 inch #4 buck at forty and fifty yards and the third with the AR and 53gr Hornady Superformance at eighty yards. Real fun!

awesome man, new years eve I

awesome man, new years eve I think is overrated too.  When you killed the first one, did you go down and stash it away?  Or do the coyotes not get weary about other dead coyotes in the area?

I hauled em to the truck after dropping em but i have left em where they lay before. I usually drive at least a mile to my next stand or more so leaving em dont bother other ones in the area. Its real vast country. Other yotes prolly eat the dead ones they come across. A friend shot a mangy one once that was cruising with another coyotes head in its mouth. Freaky!

Thanks take care!

Nice job! Looks like some good yotes. How was their fur looking? Looks like a big hole on that one to sew up. Do most people just toss them around here or do they skin them out and try to sell them?

Thanks

Striker! Fur looked good on all three. I dropped em off to a friend who said he'd like to try skinning some yotes. That big hole came from the 223 53gr v max. In my 18ich ar barrel im getting around 3250 fps and at that close range 80 yds it was pretty destructive but i did hit bone breaking one of the front legs. She was moving when i hit her. The buck shot looked very fur friendly but that was at long ranges for the scatter gun. Sounds good if you get a chance to come down before the end of Feb. Shoot me a pm if you are able to make a trip.

Coyotes

I like coyote in a stew mixed with squirrel legs and some beaver tounge. Just kidding ya Soko. You don't want to eat those. I wish I was a little closer to Pueblo it would be easier for me to do some hunting with ya. With work and the wife with a new baby I will probably only get short hunts thus I'm looking closer to Denver. But I'll let you know if I can get down your way. I'd sure like to. Thanks for the invite again.
