I use a Viper treestand, and although they can be nice, I prefer sitting on the ground.
I always end up getting caught climbing the tree I suspect, because I have only shot 1 of my 3 deer from a stand. And that was in a thick area.

I agree, where else can you take a nap? LOL

Wink Yeah you owe me one Maineguide...

Chuck, what do you mean by "getting caught climbing a tree you suspect"? By the way I know what you mean (in your other posts) about school getting in the way of hunting. When I was in college I rarely had time to hunt, being that the fall was busy with school work.

It's not school, it's just a 4 hour exam.
Haven't you ever heard that you can be caught climbing the tree? If there's a deer within a hundred yards, and it see's your movement, it WILL watch you, and never come near you.

Your putting yourself in an easier place for the deer to see you when you gain altitude.
Some people prefer going up quiet and slow, some just zip up the tree.
I prefer the "Get it over with" method hehe

Oh...figured you were in school. 4 hours of testing sounds like about 4 hours too much!

No I haven't heard of getting caught going up the tree. This is probably because I have never used a treestand though...

I use the Screaming Eagle brand of Hang-on stands along with some screw-in rod steps.
Here's a link to their site. Make sure to check out that limb saw!!

Had a buck follow me to my stand at 4 in the afternoon 2 days ago..did not know it until I was halfway up my stand...spooked him and he ran into the corn...same buck came back at 6 or so ...little guy so I passed him up. I was a bit surprised to see him come back!

I use a summit II climber, a lock-on and a Magnum ladder stand. I wouldn't be caught on a hunt without one.
