New Stand Site!!!!!

I think I have found a new stand site just in time for the best part of the season. I just talked with the landowner of one of the properties I hunt on. He told me about this monster buck he has been seeing every morning and evening. There is a low spot in his front yard about 80 yards away from his house. He said alot of does cross through this low spot both in the mornings and evenings. He said he has seen this buck hanging out in this low spot like 5 days straight now. I will be putting up a stand in this spot tomorrow and hopefully my wife or one of my kids will be able to nail this big boy. At the least it will be a great doe killing stand.

Outstanding!  That is a great opportunity that awaits.  I hope your wife or one of your kids does get a crack at it.  Sounds like you should be able to get #4 out of there for yourself as well.

I always was excited the first day with sitting in the new stand.  Second day as well.  And third and so on!

What kind of stand you putting up there today - a climber or a fixed ladder?

It is a hangon stand. It is

It is a hangon stand. It is up and I think it is in a pretty good spot. I have one moderately traveled trail to the right of the stand. 2 heavily traveled trails to the left of the stand and then another moderately traveled trail to the left of the stand as well. All of these trails are within 25 yards of the stand. The stand is in a draw that comes off of a large bean field behind the stand. There are also 2 major bedding areas in front of and behind this stand. We are suppose to have heavy rains Wednesday and Thursday (26th and 27th) with a large drop in temperature on Thursday. They say Friday morning will probably be in the upper 20's or low 30's. I will be in that stand Friday morning and can't wait to see what will be coming through there. It also helps to have the land owner tell you about how the deer move on his property.

Very nice MOTF!  Can't wait

Very nice MOTF!  Can't wait to see what the new stand produces!  How many more can you get out there?  Hopefully you can get a shot at the big guy, or at the very least, thin out the doe population.

By the way, is this one of the stands areas that you had trail cams up but were not allowed to hunt, or is this entirely a new area? Looks like you got a sweet hookup.... Wink

Good luck!  Keep us updated!

Sounds like you have a good set up going there. I hope you'll be able to drop a monster buck. Like CA_ asked is this a new area that you haven't hunted before? I can't wait to hear the story from the action you'll have. You can only shoot does the rest of your season right? If so that would make for deer number 4 for the year? you should have a lot of meat for the frezzer this year already. Good luck and keep us posted.

This is just a new area on a

This is just a new area on a property I have been hunting on the last couple of years. It is kind of in the guys front yard so I never felt right about putting a stand in there. But, the other day he approached me and told me about all the activity he sees in there and he told me to put a stand in there. I gladly accepted the invintation. I hung the stand the next day and like I said Friday morning I will be in it and my son will be in a stand just up the hill from me. Unfortunately I can't shoot anymore bucks but we still have a few buck tags left in my family. (wife and kids). So, besides my other good spots I already have this will be another great addition. Saturday morning my son and I will be going back to the stands off that large bedding area on the other property where I seen that buck we call Twin Towers. That is also the area where the big wide 8 point is hanging out. So, hopefully Friday or Saturday we will nail another doe ot two and my son can tag out on one of those nice bucks.

I almost had a doe in my new

I almost had a doe in my new spot this morning but a pickup truck came driving up the lane and spooked her just enough that she turned and went the other way. After she came in I messed around a little bit with a 6 pointer. I grunted at him and he came walking down the hill right at me. He was grunting as he was walking towards me. He came in after I did a rattling and grunting sequence. I could have had him at 5 yards, lol. My friend was out with me in one of our other stands and he shot this 2 year old 8 point. It's an average buck but I wouldn't have shot him. Here are a couple of pictures.

If that's an "average buck",

If that's an "average buck", then I need to hunt where you are hunting.... Wink

That's a dandy!  I realize you hunt there alot, and can afford to pass up on a guy like this, but that's a good deer in anyone's book.  Congrats to your friend!
