Hi All,
I'm new to the site but not to hunting. Rifle, shotgun, and (my favorite) old school recurve bow. Anyone else thinking about turkey season yet?

Well I wouldn't say I have a lot of experience. I just like to talk like a know-it-all!
But really, I've been tromp'n through the woods every chance I get since I was 3, although I've only been hunting for the last 3 seasons. I spent a lot of time in western and central Europe and got outdoors there only to find they don't have nearly as much wildlife as we do here. It made me realize just how lucky we are. So when it became time to stop traveling and settle down, I chose an old house with a spit of land in Vermont surrounded by large acreages and friendly neighbors. Come to find out I really love the chase! And thats why my weapon of choice is a 70's recurve bow. I love getting within 20 yards. Close enough to smell 'em and hear 'em chew and they don't even know I'm there! I guess I really am a predator at heart. I'm happy to find other like minded folks who want to share their stories and tips with me and vice versa. I'm glad to be here! Thumbs up

I see your in the NEK. Where abouts? My wife is from Newport and I used to work at the pulp mill in Sheldon Springs. We met in Snalbins. lol I've mostly hunted around East Enosburg and a little on Big Jay. Welcome to the board! Did you draw a moose tag yet?

I'm as far south in the NEK as you can get on the Newbury/Ryegate line just outside of Wells River. The hunting here is amazing as well as the fishing with the Connecticut River and all the local tributaries in both VT and NH. I get a hunting/fishing combo license for both states each year. I also like to travel for the sport and go to Maine, Penn, and Michigan during the seasons when my work and family schedules allow. From my front door I hunt for whitetail deer, black bear, turkey, and grouse, but unfortunately, no moose tag yet. Cry
I know, i know, wha, wha, wha. But I'm hopefull I'll pull a tag soon.
So NH, have you ever fished the Salmon run on the Clyde River in Newport?
I really wanna get up there this spring and give it a go with my two boys. Where are you in NH?

I have never fished the salmon run in the Clyde. It must be a pretty short run because they can't go too far before you hit the first dam. I have fished the mouth for warm water stuff, mostly smallmouth. I did fish the steelhead run one spring around Brownington. Not too many fish. I think it's the run out of Willoughby. I've fished the Salmon River in Pulaski quite a few times but not in the last 15 years. Also the steelhead runin Pulaski in March. I haven't drawn a moose tag either, but I'm hopeful. I haven't been putting in for VT, just NH. I'm located way down south near Derry. Have you ever fished the southern part of the CT River for walleye? I have turkeys in my yard but I don't hunt them there. Yesterday they were making a racket on my roof. I looked out the window and they were just flying off the roof. The big tom started strutting and rounded up his flock and they were headed down rthe driveway. Welcome to the forum!

Keep me posted Northeast. Where do you like to hunt turkeys here?
NH, They took out the first dam on the Clyde to re-establish the salmon spawning banks so you've got about a mile of riverbank to work with. I'm told that the fishery is coming back. As for walleye, no I haven't fished the Conn. down south for walleye, but we have some big ones up here on the Conn. at the mouth of the Wells, Waits, and Ammo. rivers. Trout, bass, and pike too. I'd like to go south to the Vernon dam in the fall. The striped bass come upstream that far and folks catch 20-30 pounders there.
I guess I can't wait for turkey season and fishing season...
