New Redfield scope

I ordered it from Midway the end of Jan and was told it wouldn't get in till maybe first of March. Well it got in early and shipped the third of Feb, got here today. This is the new one being made by Leupold and from what I see without using it yet, they'll chase off their own bottom of the line scope! This is really nice! It's a 2-7X, matt finish w/duplex reticule. Tube feels like steel, either that or there's some heavy glass in it. Noticeably heavier than the old Denver 1-4x it is replacing. It's about an inch longer at 11 1/16th inch's. Really solid feeling scope! The adjustments are 1/4" and you change them with your fingers, it's like having target turret's!

One problem, it goes on a long action Win mod 70 and the tube is gonna need an extension ring to make the trip! No problem as I have to go to Madras tomorrow any way. Hopefully Bi Mart has it. I'm gonna order another ASAP to hopefully get another at the same or close to the same price, $138.34 with shipping. This scope knocks you down the first time you pick it up, beautiful thing!!!! Thumbs up Two thumbs up! Thumbs up

Re: New Redfield scope

I'm a big fan of the 2-7 variable for a big game hunting rifle. I've purchased and been pleased with four different model Leupolds, the Elite 3200, Burris FFII and Nikon Prostaff in that size. Looks like I may need to add another name to the stable, if I need another, as I've got nuthin' against saving a few dollars! Please let us know how it sights in when that day comes.

The new Redfield scopes are a great deal in a decent scope these days, and i'll bet you the price will go UP a bunch, once they get enough of them sold to get the name out.

I agree about the magnification range in 2-7X scopes for biggame, variable or fixed. No matter how big and powerful scopes get these days, you simply do not need nor will ever need anything more than 6X for big game hunting and even some target shooting. I have mostly variable power scopes, but as time went on I realised the advantage of a quality fixed lower power scope over a variable powered scope of any magnification. Even with all the features, marketing, and modern technology that gets forced upon us today, the fixed powered scope is still a better option in my opinion.
