New Ohio Deer Regs?

I really don't know what to think about Ohio's new deer regulations.  It is good that they finally put the daily hunting hours to equal gun versus bow... but I'm not too happy with the county based bag limits.  See the link - http://www.ohiodnr.com/wildlife/dow/regulations/hunting_deer.aspx#zones  I have gone from being allowed 6 deer to 3 deer - not good!!!  And I just spent the time and money in putting in three separate food plots and three separate mineral lick areas.  I expect I will be more careful on the final 3 deer I harvest this year!

Gee, that's a real shame

Gee, that's a real shame you'll only be able to shoot three deer now! Greedy people will probably cheat and buy their spouse a license so they can still kill six even if it is illegal.

Not Greedy Here!

Well, I actually never thought of the spouse thing... but I also wouldn't do that either.  My mother-in-law ownes 35 acres in St. Ignace, MI that borders the national forest.  I was up there last week cutting some trails.  I'm now seriously thinking of doing a hunt up there.

I don't know how much of it

I don't know how much of it is going on nowadays, but it used to be common practice for some people to buy a license for a spouse or a kid that's eligible for one so they could take extra game.

Go down across the border

Go down across the border into West Virginia.  Lots of open land, and lots of deer.... Wink

After some reading, looks

After some reading, looks like they've added another ml season....in the beginning of bow season. :(
This is not good news. Now the deer will be spooked after only 3 weeks into the season. Ohio changes keep making things worse.
The second ml season has been moved from December to mid-January. Now hunters risk shooting anter-less bucks. What's the point in that! It is as good as a doe, and usually not as tasty

ML Season

Yep!  I've got a hunting friend who shot a button buck last January ML season thinking it was a doe.  Since I hunt private property in SE Ohio I'm not worried about the early ML season but you are right that it will put more hunters in the public woods earlier and possibly make it harder for the bow hunters.

I think the more

I think the more opportunities you can give people to fill the freezer the better. If I am not in the field's maybe I'll take my son to the woods to shoot a doe with a muzzleloader. I am a bowhunter but chuckle when the bowhunter crowd cry about other weapons messing them up.

I totally agree with you there!  Many hunters shun the crossbow hunter.  Anytime we as hunters can get more people hunting is a darn good thing!
