New to NW hunting. How do I get started?

I moved to Seattlelast year sometime. I just got back from doing some floundering in Texas with the family and talking to my cousin who just got back from bowhunting.

I missed being out there. I have a buddy up here, and we were both prettyy avid deerhunters (whitetails) and we'd love to be able to go out and sit somewhere and maybe get some venison for our freezers.

I have always hunted on a deer lease with the old man, so I am new to hunting on public land, does anyone know where I could go to hunt around Seattle. I dont mind a long drive.

What other opportunities are there besides whitetails up here? I also dove hunted a little bit. Wouldnt mind doing some birdhunting either.

What are the seasons here?

I apologize for my laziness, I could look up some info on my own like seasons and such. Just figured I would see if I could some pointers or tips from the seasoned guys up here. I have been trying to get into some fishing and hunting, just cant seem to meet the right people.

Welcome, So are you north of seattle or south, I myself am probably little or no help on the north side, on the south side I may be a bit more help anyways, as it stands we are coming to the close of modern rifle season and moving on to elk season and then back to late buck. You can find all the season info at:

I am north of Seattle.

Wow, I see seasons run a bit earlier up here. Well I guess I know better for next year.

Also, I hear alot on here about people scouting. I am new to hunting on public land. Hows the ettiquite work with hunting on public land. If someone else has been scouting a certain area, and I happen to just roll out there one day, seems like I could be stepping on toes.

Does this ever happen?

it happens and I dont think you would be stepping on any toes, you have to figure its public land, I kinda think that when it comes hunting season the first one there was there first so best of luck kinda deal. That being said I dont like to see other people where im hunting but i dont own the land so what can i say. there is a lot of land to hunt so the further you get out the less you will see. Last weekend I had a guy walk right into the middle of my set up and sit down on top of a slash pile, in doing this he scared a 2 point right back into the timberline. I was more than a little upset not so much that he was there just the fact that he didnt even try to be quiet. But once i coughed he saw I was there and left so i suppose there is some ettiquite involved but the biggest thing is just being courtious
