New Mexico Unit 22

I was recently drawn for a deer hunt in unit 22 in New Mexico. I live in Arizona and have never hunted in New Mexico, but I have hunted for Coues and Mule Deer for many years in Arizona. Does anyone have some suggestion on where to start scounting? I perfer hunting Coues but any info on either Mule or Couse will be greatly apperciated. This is a November rifle hunt. Thanks for the help!

You won't have any issue finding either whitetail or mulies. I also live in AZ and hunt that area every year. It's a very hard area to hunt unless you have a quad. Make sure that quad is legal. You need to buy a tag for the quad before you unload it or you will get a very hefty fine. I think it costs about $40 for the tag. The quad has to be licensed and you must wear a helmet at all time. As far as where to hunt in 22 I'd try the very most southern part of the unit. I've seen many bucks hanging out there but was always hunting for the mule deer. . I go to the very most northern part for mulies. You can stay in pleasanton if you aren't taking a tent or camper. The motel is called the Lariet. The gal that ownes it ownes most of the town. The son owns the bar and resturant. Great people. I shot a nice 5x3 mule deer in 2006 with my .54 muzzleloader. Hope this info helps.

I would like to receive ANY information on where I might start to look for deer in Unit 22 - just drew a tag there - not afraid to walk if necessary. Not looking for trophy bucks, just a decent legal meat buck! Thank you!!!!

I drew this season for the same hunt you did. I was wondering if you have any suggestions on a good place to start scouting?
