New to Hunting San Diego Area

This will be my first year deer hunting southern California and was wondering if anyone could point me in the right direction as to where I should go. I keep hearing about Cleveland national forest but I'm not sure what areas are good areas. I plan on hunting rifle season. Also, I live in El Cajon...does anyone know a place where I can sight in my rifle?

Welcome to the site. I hunt in the National Forest here also. There is alot of public land, and a decent amount of deer. However, there are alot of hunters also.

For you, being located in El Cajon, i would try scouting around Marron Valley road in Dulzura, to your south, and on Otay Mountain. Make sure you get a National forest map, because there is private land scattered all around there. Alot of that area is BLM land, which is also public. I shot a doe there a few years back.

Also, you can look up McCain Valley, Pine Valley area, etc. Those are out I-8 to your east.

As for a gun range, here is, according to them, the largest indoor range on the west coast. It's in El Cajon.

You just have to take a test to get your little membership card.

Good luck.
