Dont hunt in NC, but typically the best time is early and late. Ofcourse there are many deer that are spared because people dont hunt mid-day. I would look for a state or local magazine. Most states have some sort of local hunting magazine that talks specifically about hunting in that state. As far as tracking, just look for deer sign. Rubs, scraps, and tracks. You will see tracks year round, but the rubs and scrapes will be more around the rut. Ask local retailers that sell hunting supplies about the area you are hunting. You can also ask local citizens. Good luck.

Maybe there's a shooting club near you and that would be a good place to go make yourself known! Tell your interest....and there's probably an older 'groundpounder' that's a member that would help you get started!

You might even want to go on a guided hunt to kind of get a feel for how you like it and get an idea of tactics and etiquette, etc. Good luck and thanks for your service bud! Depending on your MOS, someone on your Platoon Staff that's been at your base for a while probably has taken deer in your area or has at least seen them. Military bases always have great amounts of deer so I would check into that as well. Good luck and Semper Fi!

Welcome to NC!! Best place to start is just to check the fields, and if theres any cut corn fields around you that's a great place to hang a stand too. I wouldn't put a permant stand but a nice lock on or climbing stand will be perfect. Good luck and welcome to NC!

Hunt high off the ground (20-30ft) , put out bottled deer urine during the rut, hunt ravines, use odorless soap and deoderant (can be picked up at a bass pro or cabelas), wear a face mask, hunt loooong (from 5:30a.m.-11:30a.m. and 3:30-dark ) you might want to bring up an empty bottle to pee in and food. And stay completey still. Good luck
p.s. -dont fart
