What do I do with this stuff?
dump it on the bait?
(molasses, honey, raspberry syrup, blueberry syrup, sugar, grain, marshmallow)

Blackie, that stuff should be poured right near your main baitpile, maybe on any logs you're using to cover your bait or a bucket or whatever. Syrups are not an attractant as such, but their main purpose is to keep a bear staying longer at a baitpile and this gives you a longer chance for the best shot angle. So, make sure its poured so that when the bear settles in, he's gonna be standing or laying right where you want him to be.

Blackie - I guess it depends on how much you have. We used to put some on everytime we baited. Usually in two or three spots. The bears will find it and come back looking for more.

OK let's start .

SCOUTING :

any hunter should devote some of his time to scout for games.. u should scout as much as u could and should not stop on the first bear sign u see and setup ur crib next to it !

once u've found signs, u should pause for a minute and look around and ask urself this : " is this a good location for bears to feel safe? "
if bears don't feel safe in it , u will probably not see them during legal shooting hours, so the bears who left these signs behind are nocturnal !
here is an example :
if u are driving on a service road with plenty of traffic and u saw bear scat on it and u decide to setup ur bait right next to the scat, u think u will see this bear hitting ur bait crib during shooting hours ?!!
so finding bear scat or signs is a good indication of bears in the area but that should not stop u there, and u should not guarentee yourself a bear in ur pickup .
If u find bear signs in bad location, u should either follow it until u hit a good hiding spot away from roads or activity or u can keep looking around until u find a remote location with plenty of bear signs around,, if that is impossible to find , or u cannot follow the tracks, then narrow it down and try to find a water hole or creek or any source of water and go from there,, the bear signs u found near that road belong to a bear that must come to drink to survive , so if all fail find water and don't give up if no signs on this water holes, u will find signs on the next one u find .

scouting is one of the most important part in the whole hunt .... scouting will make it or break it .. so scout on all ur free time , every minute u spend it on scouting will pay u back in a big way !

FRESH SIGNS AND OLD SIGNS :
any sign is good,, fresh or old,, but it is rare to find old signs and not finding fresh signs nearby ! look harder u will find it ! I am talking here about signs that are let's say a week old or two, i am not talking about last year signs,, if that's the case and u cannot find fresh signs near the year old sign then move on !

WHAT IS YOUR GOAL :
once u find signs and u r satisfied and decide on the location of ur crib must ask yourself is this bear is what i want ? do i want a BIGGER bear ? or any bear for now is a good bear ?
example :
if u want big bears but u can only find smal tracks then u r in the wrong area looking for the big ones,, big bears are found everywhere because they roam none stop but if u wanna increase ur chances of finding big bears then u gona have to look somewhere else, like low ground near swamps, bogs , very hard difficult terrain,, so therefor the waiting period for a bear to hit ur NEW baitsite deppends on the size of the bear u are after and the location of the bear !
Here i am talking about i want a BIG BEAR NOW .. i guarentee u, u will find BIG BEARS on ur NEW crib but in 4 years from now and if u find BIG BEAR NOW on ur first year baitsite hunting ( without finding big tracks ) then take it but it won't happen that often ,, take my word for it !
this is a different subject , i can talk about this in detail if u r interested to know the what , how and why !! let me know ( I CALL THAT RAISING BIG BOARS )

Next post will be about bait location and stand

I don’t have miles and miles and miles of forest, what I got is what I got.
When I found that first huge old track I couldn’t believe it, I couldn’t imagine a bear that big, (shows my inexperience huh?) I did like you said, I kept scouting, and I looked at the topo of this area and asked myself, where would be the hardest area for humans to get to. So I went looking there and sure enough I found some more, Then I kept scouting in circles and I found a bunch of tracks. This bear likes to be in the hardest place to get into and would be almost impossible to retrieve if he’s killed down there. So it’s exactly like you said
Keep Looking

Now the job is to try and get him to come up out of there so he is huntable.
