New to area

I just moved here from NC and I'm looking to do some hunting in the area but I don't know anything about this area and it's so much different than what I'm used to. I'm in Oceanside and was wondering if you guys with a little more knowledge of the area could give me some advice on where to go for hogs. If it helps I plan  on using my Browning BAR 270. Thanks in advance to you all.

Welcome.  However, there are a few places named Oceanside in this great country, so can you post the state?  My apologies if I missed it.....

It's Oceanside California

It's Oceanside California near camp Pendleton in San Diego county. That's my fault for not mentioning it.

No problem, figured it was

No problem, figured it was that one.  I live in Escondido, just 15 minutes down the 78 from you.  Not alot of places to go locally for hogs.  There are a few out there, but usually you only run across their sign that's a couple of days/weeks old.  Lots of the loca mountaions are so thick with cover, it's tough to ever spot them.

Most people here go further north to get them, and pay to go with someone.  The closest is Tejon Ranch, where I shot my only hog.  Great place, but things have gone a little downhill there, and becomming very political.  The central coast has some great pig hunting, all the way north through the rest of the state.

Let me know if you have any more specific questions, and again, welcome to the site!

I'm thinking about trying

I'm thinking about trying palomar it seems to be a good place to start. I'll do some pre season for deer and have a look around while I'm there. It's Palomar in the D16? And does anyone know where I might start out there? I know no one is going to give up their spots I'm just looking for advice because I don't know where anything is.

Yes, Palomar is D16, And is

Yes, Palomar is D16, And is one of my spots..... lol Good amount of deer there, but also large amount of hunters. But that's typical of most public land hunting in SoCal. As for pig, that is one of the places I have seen sign, and there have been sightings of them up there. Again though, it's so thick, and the population is low. I carry a tag just in case I bump into one During deer season.

Sounds awesome I'm probably

Sounds awesome I'm probably going out there this weekend to look around bringing my rifle and the appropriate tag just in case. If you ever see a big grey F-250 that's probably me. If you ever go PM me I might be out there. Thank you for your help.
