Nevada or Utah Mnt. Goats

Any body ever hunt mnt. goats in the ruby mnts. of nevada, or the beaver unit in utah? I have five points in each state and now starting to have a slight chance at one (mabey).

yes your right about lamoille canyon behind spring creek, but theirs to much local presure during deer season , i have seen some B&C billys alot farther down the range. I didnt even bother gaining points for those sheep over their, just the other two.

Have you gone to the Utah DOW site and checked out the drawing odds and harvest reports? If not you can look at them here http://wildlife.utah.gov/hunting/biggame/ I think that no matter where you go the odds are quite high in drawing a tag. The flip side of that is that I had a friend from Utah that put in his first time here in Colorado on Mt. Evans and drew the tag his first year. All that I could figure is that he was the only non-resident to put in for it. But then he has always been a lucky guy in the draws. He has drawn all of Utah's once in a lifetime tags along with having a grand slam of North American sheep along with a few from other parts of the world.

ya i've been doing some research on utah, they only give out one or two NR tags in each unit. Im will do a DIY hunt so beaver has the best access and the best potential for B&C goats and a late hunt for better and longer hair, but also the worst draw odds.

I hear ya on the draw odds. The trouble with Utah or it could be a good thing also is that they give out "bonus" points. I have 14 bonus points for bison but can't draw. Two years ago my brother in law drew out with 13 and while we were scouting we talked to a hunter who drew with only 2 points. Some times ya just can't win.
Back to goat hunting my cousin guided a hunter to get a goat on the face of Mt. Timpanogos in the Wasatch unit. By the time the got to the goats the hunter thought that he was going to die. If you have never seen that area it is straight up an down along with a lot of ledges. I know that I thought that I was crazy when I was in high school in Provo and hunted deer up there on just the steep hill side but up into those rocks you had to have a death wish.

The Ruby Range has always intruiged me. I'd be interested to hear about your planning and adventure if you head that way. Currently I live in N. Idaho, and from time to time I go to south Idaho ... and from high points, or on clear days, I peer in wonder at the mountains in the haze across the border.

I've hunted mulies in the ruby's five times and When im glassing it seams the the big ones love to hang out just under the goats and the batchler heards of bucks will be just above treeline or lingering in the mohaganies.

You sound like I was while I was working. A lot of places to go and no time to go there. Now I have all kind of time but cant draw a tag.

I remember back in the early 70's in Utah and you could draw all the tags that you put in for if you were lucky enough. A friends dad put in for moose, and buffalo in Utah and had a couple of trips planed up to Montana for hunts on elk and moose. This along with planning a trip to Africa. Guess what, he drew all the tags that he put in for. When we asked him what he was going to do and he said he was going to buy a bigger freezer. He worked for US Steel and could take 6 months off. He did have a lot of fun that year.
