I am considering moving to Nevada, maybe the Carson City area and I am curious as to what the deer hunting is like there. I currently live in the Sierra Nevadas about 13 miles from Yosemite. I never have a problem drawing tags but filling the tag is another story. I get a buck every 3 to 5 years seems like. Do locals in Nevada have any trouble drawing their tags? Also what areas of Nevada are best for big game hunting?
Isn't there any Nevada Big game hunters around????
I've put in for a few hunts in Nevada but have yet to draw. There is no shortage of public land, but tags can be hard to come by. Check back with me in a couple of weeks when I start working on my rankings for that state. I've always applied for tags in the Northeast and east central parts of the state.
Wow so it is hard for locals to draw? Is that common in Nevada? I can't imagine not getting my deer tag.
Take a look at the drawing odds. Not many units have better than 3 to 1 odds. So yeah, most years you won't draw unless you try drawing for the really low demand areas.
If you become a resident of Nev. you can draw the ruby mnts. almost every year for the first season. There are big mulies over there. I've drawn that area 4 times early season and 1 time late season as a non res. plus there is great chucker hunting. But you need tobe in shape. Where do you live know off the 41?
I live about a mile and half from Bass Lake which is about 8 miles or so East of 41. Do you live around here?

Wow, that is a hell of a buck! Wish I could say I have got one to compare but I don't!
im a res of neavada and there is alot of good deer hunting here. as for drawing a tag it depends on what area you want. area 10 in the rubies you can draw almost every year theres alot of deer but it seems like you see more hunter ornage then antlers, i got my first buck ther when i was 12 we packed in there to get away from all the other hunters, but theres alot of deer that come out of there. there are alot of good areas that give out alot of tags that are easyer to draw. but then theres other areas that only give out 20 to 100 tags those areas are harder to draw, but have excellent deer hunting. the odds off getting those areas are about every 3 to 6 years. you can get a tag almost every year it just depends on what erea you want. i found its easyer getting archery tags, i drew area 21 the first year i applyed for it, they only give out 13 tags for that area. a freind of mine gets his archery tag for area 6 every year. on a nevada aplication you can put down 5 difrent units in order to you most perferd area to your 5th choice i always put the harder areas at #1#2#3 and put a easly drawn unit like area 7 and area10 at 4th and 5th.
welcom to nevada
What is the best unit for the early archery tag by Ely. I think I will have a better shot at drawing an archery tag. Thanks
