Need your help on a picture taken by game cam

Ok guys, a few months back i got a picture on my game camera. The picture appears to be some kind of cat. Well some say its a cat, some say its a dog. My first take was, it was a housecat that got to close to the camera. But now i don't know. Note that i live in Kentucky. Most people say big cats are not here yet. Which maybe true. I have the picture on my website. http://community.webtv.net/bethton1/GameCameraPictures Please let me know what you think. I have a poll question up on the site as well if you don't care to answer what you think the picture is. Thanks for your time

I would say house cat. It looks as though you moved the camera to a closer vantige point. So the fox looks about the same size as the cat but you can tell the cat is closer than the fox. So unless it is a very small panther you got your self garfeild

Well the camera is about the same distance just a different angle. This is a better camera i have now as well. I had a Kentucky deparment of Fish and Wildlife officail contact me about the picture. He said don't be suprised if thats a big cat of some kind. Last year something got in our basset hand lot and took the puppies. It might be a housecat, hopefully i will get another picture of it

Man, that's a tough call! The head looks legit for a panther, but it's hard to say for sure. Have you seen any tracks? That may give you a better idea about what it actually is.

Hey buddy thanks for checking out the picture. Well as soon as i got the picture i went up to the feeder to look around. Didn't find any tracks. It was dry all summer. The feeder is only about 200 yards from my house. I do have a black cat, but thats not her. It might be another housecat but who knows. The only hope is if i get another picture of it. But thanks for looking

I'm not a forensic expert, but it looks like a cat. I would suggest placing an object in the background somewhere that can help you in determining size.

Can you take your pet cat out there and throw it in about the same spot as the one in the pic, and then compare them?

Well that isn't a bad idea, but i doubt if she will stay still. When it warms up a bit i will take some food and put her in that spot.

i think

from the pick it looks like a smaller panther type, but i would try to keep the ground moist so that it shows tracks. but not to wet so the water sits there... try that and see if it works.... plus you can use that for other animals also....
