Hi,
I am trying to find out any hunting information that I can on GMU 133 in Colorado because my buddy's family owns 160 acres there. They never hunt on it and my buddy in the Marines wants to start heading out there, but has never hunted before. Anything would help. Are there any elk out there or is it primarily mule deer? Also, is there much public land in the unit?

There is very little public land in 133. There are some elk around the Cucharas Reservoir, but it is private land and not actually in unit 133. It is mostlly mule deer and antelope. This is shortgrass prairie country. There likely aren't any game animals that spend a lot of time on just 160 acres of shortgrass prairie.
In the canyon country of 133 and 134 there are some are good areas for big mulies and on the plains good antelope hunting. And, there are elk out there in the big canyons but there aren't many and spread out in a large area. So, it would be akin to finding a needle in a hay stack and 160 acres is pimple when were talking elk and how they roam. Like Ex said this is mostly private property and again 160 acres especially if it's just flat grass land isn't really going to hold much game out in the plains.
