Need good shooting bench ideas.

I need to build a very stable shooting bench. Anyone with photos or plans willing to post them ? Permanent or portable.

I have a couple that I made. Both portable but one much more so than the other. There are no plans, I just sorta did it as I went.

I don't know how well this one will show up. It it's not much, I'll take a new one tomorrow. The other I'll screw the legs on a do it tomorrow also. I don't think I have a photo any where.

I'll do some photo'sorrow if it's nice out and post them for you. I'm not to good at plans tho. You right handed or left handed?

Don, what you got up ere on the stand?

That sure is a purdy view for a rifle range.... back yard?

Bench looks good, but probably not built for shooting 470's off of it. lol lol

Just kidding, I don't shoot mine off a bench, and I don't know to many that will.

Blackbear-

I just use my lead sled, a table, and a bench or seat that's roughly the right height. With a good Lead sled, you virtually have a mobile set up if you've got a table and a seat. I don't have the craftsmanship that Don does. Thumbs up

Thats not to far from the house. I used to shoot there a lot but new owner shut it off. Lot's of places like that around here tho. That's a 700 Rem In 6.5x06. I've been fooling around with long range target shooting. If you look down range to the left of the table you'll see a dark bush by itself. In front a bit you'll see a tiny white speck. That's what a 2' x 2' target looks like at 500 yds.

blackbear where do you live? I have an extra top for right hand that only needs legs. Legs are 30" 1 1/4" pipe threaded on both ends with caps on the bottom. I'll try and get a photo of one together tomorrow and post it here. They are very stable. My first one I did with 3/4" pipe legs and it worked but wobbly. My son has it now. These new one's have 1 1/4" plywood table with pipe floor brackets screwed thru hardwood wedges to give about a 10 degree angle.

By the way, this is my back yard:

couple three shot groups from that rifle after I got done with it and pulled my hair out finding a 140gr bullet to shoot in a 1-9 barrel. 140gr SMK's @ 100yds, The grids are 7/8th inch.

So here's the bench. laying on the ground so you can see how it breaks down. Very portable.

With the legs installed.

set up

Pad to screw pipe flanges to to set the angle of the legs

I sit in a lawn chair.

The top of the first one was made with two pieces of 3/4" plywood glued and screwed together to make a 1 1/2" top. This one I got a piece of 1 1/4" car decking to make the top. Either works well but the car-decking needed a lot of wood filler to close up the gaps in the core. Finish is just several coats of varathane.

I should be able to draw something you can use as a plan. Want me to send you one?

Is that carved out of one inch plywood, or was the table prefab.? Looks sturdy and utilitarian. Thumbs up

The first bench, if you look at the edge of it you'll see it's three pieces of 1/2" plywood laminated. Glue and screws. On the second it's a piece of 1 1/4" plywood car decking. The first I made, long ago was two pieces of 3/4" plywood glued and screwed together.

Cost wise the best way is with the 1/2" plywood. Get three pieces out of a sheet. With the car deck, I ended up with three tops but only needed one. I have an extra RH and LH top out in the shop. Blackbear gets first shot at one, just pay for the shipping. If you have time it would probably be cheaper to make one.

Have a friend going to help me draw a plan for it if anyone wants one. Free to US citizens only! Probably should be able to get it posted here.
