Drove from Las Cruces, NM to Denver yesterday and have a report from pronghorn country. It is dry as a bone from Las Veges, NM to Raton (San Miguel, Mora, and Colfax Counties). Pastures are brown and eaten down to the nub. I did not see a single dirt tank that had water in it. We really need rain bad. Saw many single does and bucks along the interstate (I-25). No big herds yet.
The drive from Raton to Pueblo (Las Animas, Huerfano, El Paso Counties)was totally different. It was so green it looked like Ireland. Grass was tall and green, dirt tanks were overflowing there banks. Antelope looked fat and healthy. Saw probably 20 differnet animals.....almost all solo.
Thought someone might be interested who is hunting those areas.
