My sons 4th season buck

After waiting 3 years to get the tag, and not getting to hunt deer at all last year because of it my son finally got his chance this week.

Actually saw 5 bucks opening day but this was by far the largest and the the second one we went after. Fortunately we blew the stalk on the first one.

After glassing the brushy hillside for over a half hour we decided to call it a day and head back to the truck. Just as we started leaving I turned back for one last look and spotted this guy just inside the brush line of a sagebrush clearing. 5 minutes later and and 3 solid hits with his .300 the biggest buck of his life was down. I can't believe this buck took so much before falling. One shot straight on and 2 broadside throughh the lungs. 320 yards shooting Barnes 165 TTSX out of a Ruger Hawkeye in .300 Win mag.

Colorado unit 444. The rut

Colorado unit 444.

The rut should have been full swing but we never saw a single buck with a doe all week. Almost think it was over already.

Doesn't matter though as he's super happy with the way it worked out.

Congrats

That is a bruiser of a buck!  For the rack, I like the crab claws, very heavy, and tall.  Body-wise, I hope it wasn't too far of a haul, because he looks heavy!  Congrats again!
