My Morning buck and my dads first

I was hunting at my grandfathers house today wich was the first day of the pa hunting season i shot my buck at around 730. I shot it once and it ran off 75 yards and just stood there and then i finshed him off. I heard 3 shots after my shots i must have pushed deer towards other hunters from my gunshots. the buck i shot was a 5 pointer with a giant body. I dont have a digi cam so i cant show you pictures. The shots i heard after mine were shots shot at a 14 point this deer weiged over 200 pds. Then the day was ending and me and my father were hunting down on the ridge were i shot my buck in the morning and it started to rain so we started walking up to my grandfathers house and we were walking up the path and i saw this big brownish colored thing about one hundred yards away i told my dad about it and he checked it through his scope he said its a deer. He took the shot quickly trying not to spook the deer away he hit it. It ran about 50 yards and dropped i told my dad ohh man i hope that isnt a buck you didtn check for horns did you. he says no its a doe. we walk up he says OH SHIT!!!!! We walk up it has a tiny basket rack on it. I counted the right side 1 2 3 left side holy crap 1 2 3 4 this was my dads first deer and we were lucky that it had 4 points to one side due to the new antler restrictions. My dads been hunting 35 years and thats his first deer. Im 14 and this is my 3 deer he was very happy for both of us.

Re: Congrats !

i think it is fair because it lets bucks grow bigger and have more poits so there is a lot more trophy buck potential around your area. Plus it lets the smaller bucks survive to maturity and have normal sized racks and bodies. i am stil a junior hunter so i have the choice to shoot smaller bucks with less than the 4 points to one antler rule. thats why i was able to harvest tht 5 point hunting peensylvania has been a great expierience for me.

im 14 and got a 7 pointer opening day in pa. im in the area 4c so mines 3 points per side. i go buy the antler restriction. during archery season i passed up a 5 pointer. it looked like it was about 1.5 years old. and ik there was that 7 around. its a decent size 7 and it had a huge body. it weigh in at 150 dreesed. i like the restriction for the same reasons you do but i think they should do some searious clear cutting all over PA. then we will see alot more deer.

The mature forests where there is no food or cover at ground level. Not all of it but some well placed clearings.

Congrats to you and your dad!! You are right Pa needs some clear cutting,
select timbering and even prescribed burns would be nice in some areas.
It would help the deer, turkey, small game as well as the forests.
