My Goat

I went on my mountain goat hunt in mid-September and it was successful.  I got a 9 year old billy with 9 1/2 horns.  I'll post a story about the hunt with pictures soon.

It was the toughest hunt I've done to date.

The scenery was magnificant and really added to the hunt.

My wife said if she had read

My wife said if she had read the mountain goat attack story before I left she wouldn't have let me go.  I told her that I was far more likely to die from falling off the mountain than being attacked by a goat.  Somehow that didn't make her feel better.

Here is a pic from above the clouds.

Most Important Piece of Equipment

As I have reflected on my hunt, I think the most important piece of equipment I had were my boots.  I did a lot of research on mountain goat hunting and just about everyone who responded emphasized the importance of quality mountain boots.  There are lots of good boots out there, but I settled on Kennetrek Mountain boots.  They performed perfectly and I can't imagine climbing mountains, side hilling across loose shale fields without them.  They gave me the grip and confidence I needed to get across some treacherous terrain.  And the boots are tough.

I don't think you can tell that I trekked up and down mountains with them.  They look brand new and I've had them almost two years.  They also performed well crossing streams.  Now way to get across some streams other than stepping into the stream, but the boots kept my feet dry.

Mountain boots are stiffer than most other boots, but these are very comfortable.  They definitely were a great investment and added to the success of my hunt.

i submitted the story, just waiting for it to get posted.

I will say that it was a great hunt with a good ending.  Now waiting on the mount to come back.  Will take about 9 months to get it done.  The wife isn't too thrilled, but she is tolerant and wonderful.

You should atleast post some

You should atleast post some pictures on here so that we can see him. Congratulations CVC... that sounds awesome. I can not wait for my first chance to chase those critters. Hey, while you're at it, you should just post your story here too. The suspense is killing me. Its not fair to tease us with a cool hunting story like that and make us wait! ha

I went ahead and posted pics

I went ahead and posted pics on the other thread you started.  The story is up now in the story section.  Let me know if you have any questions after you read it.  There is more to it than in the story and I'm happy to talk about it.
