I'm using 65 gr of IMR 7828SSC. I've found a few other loads from a John Barsness article that should be faster, but they were way too hot at my seating depth, I need to experiment with seating a little closer to the lands.
Those other loads, and don't say I didn't warn you, were 65 gr of MagPro (3207), 69 gr Magnum (3240), 65 gr Retumbo (3171), 65 gr MRP2 (3114) and 64 gr RL 25( 3130).
My load was from an old IMR publication, which they no longer put out in the Hodgdon Magazine/manual. Also, I've got a really long barrel(27.5"), which helps. Those velocities posted from the article are what Barsness got, not me.
The stiffest load I've tried with H4831SC is 61gr so far, but no pressure signs and velocities around 2900 with a 140 gr Speer.
The Retumbo load was very erratic, with velocities ranging from 3355 to 3059.
The MagPro load was a little too hot in my gun and velocity was about 3075.
I only shot 1 load with the Magnum powder (didn't work up like I should have) and it was WAY too hot at 3140 fps on a 40 degree day.
Hope that helps
As for the Zebrawood, I saw that for the first time on Friday. I was up in Casper at Z-Hat customs and Fred Zeglin used it for a forend tip and grip cap on a .411 express custom Mauser he did. I thought it was way cool. However, I don't think it grow large enough to make blanks large enough for gun stocks.
