My first bull!

OK here he is!! My first bull elk!! I know there was bigger elk in the area( I saw them, darn those backs!! . He started bugling one hour before sunrise and was bugling right up to the time when I shot him...was very cool to listen too. I had set a standard for myself and I really wanted a big nice 6x6 but a really nice 5x5 would be awesome too!! Needless to say this bull tricked me...I was so mesmerized by his backs that I did not notice he was a point short on one side til I got next too him. Regardless I am extremely happy to harvest such a magnificent animal and not be any happier, been a week and I am still smiling. 315 yard shot and he was mine. The pack was not a really long distance as I was able to get 4wheeler closer, but it was 500 yards straight up hill, rocky and thru oak brush, I shot him Sunday morning and it took until Monday about 4pm to get the last load out. This will go down as one of the best hunting experiences of my life.

Nothing wrong with that

Nothing wrong with that bull.  Sometimes when you see those big whale tails the rest of the antlers look insignificant.

Congradulations. Thumbs up

Congratulations on your first

Congratulations on your first bull. Now that the first one is in the books you can set your sights on that big 5x5 or 6x6.

Nothing wrong with that. A

Nothing wrong with that. A fat cow in the freezer is hard to beat and for sure a nice 5x5 for your son would be great. Never know, draw a cow tag and then pick up an OTC bull tag or hunt another season with an OTC tag. Could work out really well. The worst that will happen is your out hunting.

Thanks everyone.  I wish I

Thanks everyone.  I wish I could have held out one of the true monsters in the area, but anyone that knows me knows I am not a trophy hunter...never will be.  I just fell in love with his backs.  I saw him on thursday before the season, but light was very low so did not get a great look then.  I would not trade him for anything.  I spent alot of time down there scouting and sitting in front of maps.  I would love to be able to go back next year!!
