My dad and I drew Unit 76

My dad and I drew first season rifle unit 76, Colorado....  We have called a few references generated by "Hunting Fool" and a few of them seemed to like the Copper Mnt. area Turner Peak area... Its seems to big a huge area with several opportunities...   I would appreciate any recommendations and/or area where other hunters have hunted.

Thanks in advance!!

 Kurt

Very nice Kurt!  Congrats on

Very nice Kurt!  Congrats on the elk (or deer?) draw for unit 76.  Should be a fun hunt, regardless of the outcome.  Hunting with your Dad is always a great thing!

Best of luck.  I hope you find alot of information,  and you have a successful hunt!

huge unit, lots of options

I think this one of the biggest units in the state.  There's a ton of options.  How do you plan on hunting it?  Horses?  Backpack in the wilderness or truck based?

We're going to try to be

We're going to try to be ready for anything... where ever the roads/trails take us. We both in pretty good shape and we're not against hiking up and staying over night in the wilderness..

We already have contacts that will supply us with horses in the Creede area, but if we like another area somewhere else, I'd have to do a little more digging...   I would appreciate any recommendation..  I've been reading your posts (exbiologist) for a while and it seems like you really give people allot of good advice!!   Thanks again!!!   Oh-yeah!   We are hunting elk   smile

so, closer to the road then?

Since it sounds like you aren't planning a pack trip from the get-go, I'd be near Finger Mesa to start.  But there's a lot of elk by the Wheeler Monument too.
