Mule Deer Strategies

Hiker has me interested in hunting Mulies. So how do you hunt them? I know whitetail pretty well but know nothing about the Mule deer. Tell me what you know, Please. Strategies, terrain, food sources, rut period, anything you can tell me will be greatly appreciated Thumbs up

redrider you are in for some fun . strategies will depend on the lay of the land you are hunting . weather it is sage brush , pinon and junipers , timberline , spurce and aspens . also it depends if you are hunting draws , corp fields or clearings . mule deer are browsers and will eat shurbs to forbs to grasses . once you have picked an area to hunt , scout the area out looking for sign and try to pattern any deer movement . hope this helps .

I mostly spot and stalk.
Your best bet is to get up on a good view point and start glassing the hill sides.

Redrider, I would think that most of us hunt spot and stalk. It really hard to pattern Muleys in the Rocky Mountains, now west Kansas might be different.

Would you guys recommend using an outfitter or are there good places to go solo? What times of the day are best for spotting? Are you able to stalk close enough for bow range? If not, how do you guys use a bow on Mulies?

Outiftters will save you a lot of time and energy. They can usually put you in good areas and your chances at bigger bucks may increase.
You can also go solo or team up with someone. There are many places to hunt on public land in the western states.
Spot and stalk is a great way to hunt Muleys, even with a bow. With a bow, it's a real challenge and it's very common to blow a lot of stalks before finally getting a crack at one.

Let me know if I can help you out with a outfitter or solo.
