Hey guys, I was looking for cheap .30-06 and I think I have found it. Mossberg makes a 100 ATR in 30-06 and it sells for 300.00 bucks!! That seems like a really good deal. But I was wondering what would I be able to hunt with a 30-06 from small stuff to big stuff. Also is a 30-06 to big for coyotes? Thanks.
Can shoot alot of game with a 30-06 from coyotes, deer, elk, bear--reccomend automatic rifle. Well, 30-06 might be a lil' big for coyote.
also check out the stevens 200 my friend. it comes in 30-06 and they are around the same price.....from what i hear out of all the cheaper rifles the stevens is the best! i have one in 22 250 and absolutly have nothing bad to say about it.....you can beat er for the money!! good luck i'd stay bolt action if i were you!!! ![]()
I prefer bolt action too

I second the Steven's 200. Its worth considering. Another is the Remington 710.
30-06 is only too big for coyotes if you don't intend to keep the hide.
redneck hunter: The 30-06 is an extreamly versatile cart. there are many bullets available for the handloader.from 110gr.-220gr. You could useit for just about any NorthAmerican game animal. However I would choose something bigger for the big bears, lol. Using it for a varmit gun , ok but more recoil and its loud report may be a problem in some areas[landowners object to noise somtimes] Over all,its one of the grate cart. that is not going away soon. Try it you will like it.
the remington 710 stay away from it!! nothing but junk! its been renamed the 770 this year and i'm not to sure how well they improved it. the stevens 200 seems to be getting the most good remarks from what i can hear!! good luck ![]()
I once had a savage rifle in .222rem that was an absulute tack driver, at 100 yds I could put five rounds into a group you could cover with a dime. One woodchuck I took I paced the distance to 400yds.Silly me I sold it because the extractor chewed up the case heads.
I chose 30-06 because of the many different rounds that can be used. I use 165 grain for deer. I think I paid a little more for my Winchester Model 70 in bolt action, it has been a great gun, and... both deer I have shot have dropped without taking a step.
I had just bought a Mossberg 100ATR and stayed quiet untill I got to test it. I brought it to the range today and was plesently impressed with it. I had put a NcStar mark III 4x16 power scope on it. It took me all of six rounds to zero it,then I started to shoot groups.First group was rem. 150gr core locks,5rounds in about 1.5". The second group was 150gr win power points and they went into a nice 1" group.I switched back and forth and the results stayed pretty much the same.I can't wait to try handloads,I'm sure I will be able to tweak it some more. Loved the rifle ,the scope has alot to be desired.
