MOOSE HUNTING IN N.B.

how many of you guys in nb think the season should be the 1st or 2nd weeknd in october? i myself think its a bit to early. i relieze they do that for there wont be a big kill during the full rut, but i'm just creating a topic to talk about...thanks for your time in advance!!!

I have not hunted moose in NB but it all depends on how you want to hunt. Do you want the early part of the rut when the moose is not easily called ? etc.
And there are many different opinions on how early you can actually call a moose for example.
The rut is not triggered as an overnight event, starts slow, peaks and declines depending on the bul cow ratio.
Personally likeit as early as I can get it.

most guys from here would like it a bit later as most guys like to call for the bulls.

After some thought.....I really don't have an opinion on the moose season as it stands now. It's been 14 years since I've been drawn for a moose licence(put in every year) and the outfitter I guide for rarely brings in moose hunters. If I could harvest a moose every second or third year or guide moose hunters every season.....then I might think differently. But my experiences hunting moose are pretty limited....although I did successfully call out and harvest a bull 14 years ago! Thumbs up

Wonsky, have you checked out http://www.NewBrunswickHuntingForums.com? Nice site.

The last 2 years our group seemed to have hit the peak of the calling season. we have taken 6 bulls and all but one was coming to the call. This past season we had answers every morning and evening. The second day bull was a 3 pt and the last evening there were 3 bulls coming in, with the 8 pointer showing up first. In 04' though we only had 1 answer in 3 long, mosquito biting days!!
