Piston, thanks for posting the pictures. Congrats to your brother and cousin. Nice looking bull. From the second picture looks like the bull was shot quartering to your brother. Shoulder looks broken. I know you were asking before you left about the .270. What caliber and bullet did your brother use? Seems to have worked. Also thumbs up to your cousin for taking his calf. Remember there are no small moose, some are just bigger than others. Glad you had a good time.

His shot was aprox. 275-300 yards accross a bay with 180 grain Federal Vital Shock Max Range X. Hit em 3 times in the wheel house and twice in the neck before he dropped. Last one was at 150 yards that finally put em down. Full side shot. He used a coffee can call I made him. He grunted twice, my brother grunted back twice and he turned back, full side.

Funny story, my brother and I scouted a spot around 11am he was going to hunt. He changed his mind while I was out fishing and he hit the woods at 2pm with my uncle who dropped him off on Lord island. I was supposed to pick him up on my way back in from the scouted spot from 11am. Weather turned ugly, raining sideways, two foot waves, and 30-40 mph winds. I never made it out. My uncle came back at dark as he was basically stuck out there due to conditions. I sent my two cousins out to the 11 am spot to pick him up while discussing the nights hunt with my uncle. We finally got around to discovering that my brother hunted a different spot. Got hurriedly dressed with another cousin, put on the life jackets as it was still dicey conditions, radioed others they were on a goose chase and went to get my brother who was sitting on shore probably thinking he was going to spend the night on the island. We pulled up as close as we could get with the weeds (thought it might be good news based on the terrible access he gave us to loading him) and he said he had one down. He also had a cow swim right in front of him waiting for us. He said that was almost as exciting as the bull experience.

Nice bull for sure thats enough meat and probbaly tastes amazing and the mention of a calf makes my mouth water. Our rifle season here dosent open till November and this is another year I will have no tag, but hopefully I can down a calf. Congrats again man.
