I've only hunted WT deer in 324. I've had some luck for mulies in 326, though, in the foothills north of Blacktail Creek. Saw lots of elk to the south of there. The sage hills in that area are pretty loaded with mule deer... and hunters for that matter. I've never gone up into the mountains around there so I couldn't really say much about the classic elk country in those units. I hunt elk more in 319 and 332. There's elk pretty much everywhere in Southwest MT, though.
Here is the scenario... you sit in your 2 piece climbing stand and your foot inadvertently bumps the lower section while there is no weight on it - and it slides down the tree, out of reach!
OK, you are safe - you have a string tied from the upper section that you are sitting on and the foot portion that slid 4-5 feet down the tree. All you have to do it pull the other section up, reposition it and you are back in business, correct?
Have you ever tested this theory?
