I hunt a ranch in the foothills of the Beartooth mountains in south central Montana. My friend who hunts the ranch with me was down there 2 weeks ago with his young sons when they saw 4 cougar, 2 took off running and the 2 just sat there 70 yards of the trail, he said one was a big tom. He said all appeared to be full grown. I have no experience hunting cougar and know little about their habits, but from what I do know if you see one your extremely lucky, let alone 4 in one place. I know there are lots of deer, turkey and elk and no doubt the elk and deer were dropping calves and fawns, anyone have an opinion as to why they would be together and is this something I should worry about as far as big game population on ranch?
