25 years... wow...

As they say persistence pays off! What are your plans for this (nearly) once in a life time hunt?

BIG BILLY !!!!!!!!!!!!! my daughter (who I might add still thinks a miss print happened and her name should have been on the tag) is backpacking and scouting our area this week. My wife signed me up at the local healt club to get into shape, saying the membership is cheaper than a heart attack. and I told all my co workers sept 15th thru december 1st handle it yourself. I've had along talk with my horses and told them the party is over this is why I feed you year after year. Talked to the taxidermist today told him to get ready. But really I just can't wait to go. Its the trip to me more than anything else no phones no work time with friends and family.

Hey gunslinger, doesn't sound like you are very excited about that tag.

You can just give it to me and you won't even have to miss any work. Ain't I a real buddy? Wink

Just pulling your chain, that's great(!) and good luck! Do hit the gym though, cause you are probably in for some serious hill climbing.

Dear biggamehunter

My wife of 10 years has only hunted a few times during our time together, she has never shot anything during the time she did go.
This year I asked her if she wanted to put in for a moose tag down in the big hole, where I put in every year. Of course she would draw the tag. Here the problem, I spent the last two weekends looking for moose and only found a small bull. So I came to the idea that I really know nothing about moose habits. Are they like elk and go to the same place year after year, what is the best time to look for them and where to look mountain tops or down in the swamps. I have asked a number of people that seem to be experts but I think they are as lost as I.
So do you have any words of wisdom for me, any bit of info would help a whole lot.

thanks sgrubb

Hello Sgrubb welcome to the board!

Check out an article we ran a few months ago regarding moose hunting. It should get you started.

Moose Hunting: Preparation and Procedures

Best times to hunt are dawn and dusk. Go for marshy areas that offer dense cover.

Stalking moose (like elk) can be difficult in dense cover, therefore a treestand near a trail/water way that shows moose sign may be your best bet.

Good luck!

Sgrub,

Yeah it figures that your wife will draw out first time. Beginners luck seems to hold in the draw system. Look at gunslinger with 25 years to get a goat tag! Although I imagine drawing goat is probably harder to draw than moose. Is getting a moose tag a decade long endeavor in Montana? In Colorado...forgetaboutit....

Congrats on drawing the tag!
