Montana Deer Hunting

Hello, I am new to this site and but found alot of info and was hopeing to get some help/info from you guys.

Me and a few buddies are planning to come up to Montana next November to go deer hunting. The area is near Whitehall. Not real sure yet as to the exact location of the property as one of my buddies has a friend that lives up there.

What I would like to know is how hard is it to get a hunting license. Looking at the web site for Montana it looks like there is a special drawing with a limited number of license available.

Is it worth the effort to to try and get the license. What I mean I would hate to apply and get the license and a few of my buddies not be able to get the license.

Any info or insight that any of you guys could provide would be great.

Best Regards,
Mike

hey

Hey mike,
I live in Northwest Montana right around kalispell. Ive lived here my whole life and never really had to worry about non resident hunters. Im sure you can find a lot of the information you need on other sites as well. Im pretty sure you can buy non resident hunting tags here, they are just more expensive then what i have to pay. but all i know is if you can get your hands on a deer or elk tag for Montana jump on it. I dont really know the whitehall area too well. but up in the northwest there are great opportunities to hunt. The buck I pulled out last year was a 7X8 mule deer with a 32.5 inch spread. they grow em big up here. so i would reccomend doing what it takes to get one

You'll have to apply for your tag, check out Montana's game & fish website to get all the details. Drawing odds are pretty low for deer tags, you'll have a better chance to draw the combo elk/deer tag than just the deer tag.

It might be a little harder to draw because you are limited to applying for a specific area. I am confident you could draw a buck tag if you could apply for more than one hunting district.

Thanks for all of the info. I am pretty excited about coming up to hunt. Can't wait to get a chance to take one of those "GROWN" deer.

as a non-resident you can only put in for a general deer combo license or a deer/elk combo license. You dont put in for a specific zone unless you are drawn and then only if there are any specific needs to you for that zone. Anyway that wont happen till you know if your even drawn. If you got to FWP web site you can get most of the info there, it is a pretty user friendly web site. Here it is.
