Montana Antelope hunt???

I'm thinking about going to Montana for an antelope hunt. Does anyone have any advice about where to go or where to avoid? I'll probably be hunting with a Rifle, but muzzleloader is not out of the question.

Montana Antelope hunt???

Just about any where in eastern Montana will be good. I use to hunt eastern Montana, around Miles City, in the mid 90's. Land access was difficult to obtain then and I doubt it is any easier now. Sorry I could'nt have been more help.

Thanks-
I'm probably going to the east side. Land access is certain to be an issue. Are there areas to avoid crowds?

If you can get access I doubt there will be any issues with other people. I should state that geting permission for antelope hunting will definitely be easier than deer. Offer to help out the land owner during the year for a chance to hunt.

Montana Antelope hunt???

I hunted antelope for the first time last october in central Montana. My tag was for unit 481 which is right about the center of the state. Saw lots of antelope and access to good areas was fairly easy. Lots of BLM lands with decent numbers of critters,we also knocked on a couple of doors and were given written permission. I ended up shooting a 13.5 incher and my buddy got one slightly smaller. Seen many that were bigger, just too far away. I tagged on the second day after a couple of blown stalks. Great hunt!

Don't let others hunters in the area bother you. Antelope hunting is usually better if there are a few people wandering the prarie, it keeps them moving and it's much easier to locate them. Good luck-

When people talk about hunting 'lopes in MT they usually assume to go to Miles City, Cold Strip, or maybe the Great Falls area. One place that seems pretty over looked is the Dillon area. I see loads of them down there every time I'm through that area. Some big bucks too. That antelope habitat area is probably not as big as in other parts of the state, but I wouldn't overlook it.

Coyotehunter, you might call the FWP Offices of the places you're interested in and ask for info on the Block Management Program. Only problem with that, though, is that the BMA info is updated every August, so whatever info that's available now would be as it was for the '06 season. However, it generally doesn't seem to change drastically from one season to the next.

I agree. There are some great antelope in the Big Hole area (Dillon) and the scenery is fantastic too.

I know MT gave out their draw results for deer and elk but not sure about antelope. Did you draw your tag?
