Modern-Day Tascos

One of my favorite scopes of all times was the older Japan-made Tasco World Class scopes. They're hard to find now, but a friend of mine gave me a fairly new Tasco 3x9x50 World Class scope the other day. I know that the quality isn't there anymore, but it fit perfectly in the Redfield rings on my 700 BDL .270. The optics are crystal-clear. Anyway, I've never had a 50mm scope before. Do they collect light alot better than the 40? Thanks for any replies.

Tasco has been bought and sold so many times over and brought in so many sub-contracted junk for years. Buy cheap, buy twice. All scopes can fail (yes even high quality). Cheap scope are MORE likely to fail than the higher quality ones.

All things being equal, the 50mm objective does collect more light than a 40mm. The real world performance is usually somewhat different. Most of cheaper 50mm scopes will transmit only a little bit more light than the quality 40mm scopes. It's the image that comes through the ocular (eyepiece) that matters.

I think bushnell is the owner of the tasco line now. Their old tasco titan line was a real tough scope as well. I have since switched to leupold and have no reason to change.

Just curious...Since youre emphasizing "modern day" what is it that is specifically modern day about these designs? Or are you just talking the style?
