model 1897 pump shotgun with a hammer

Last year my grandfather past away and left me a Winchester model 1897 12 gauge shotgun. I tracked down the serial number and it was made in 1914. It still works just fine although it shows its age. My grandfather used it for several years to feed his family and it shows. I was wondering if anyone might know the value of this type of gun? Not that it really matters because I wouldn't sell it for anything. Thanks.

P.S. When I took the recoil pad off there was a piece of paper inside the stock. It turned out to be an Arkansas state hunting license from 1943. He paid twenty five cents.

I have a 30-06 that was built for my best friend in 1945, Bud was like a dad to me. I was offered $8500 for it and turned it down. There is no value that can be placed on some thing's. Think I'd put that license back where I found it. Won't get lost that way.

That is neat from a history perspective. A perfect piece may command as much as $2000 from the right buyer; however be aware this would be a for an all original perfect piece. The price falls off steeply from there and determining the exact value would need an inspection.

Thanks for the response.

Don, you're right. There isn't a price in this world that would make me sell. As for the license. Well I put it right back where I found it. It just seemed like a perfect place.
