Minimum Moose cartridge

That Article Is really good Atomikall, I cant rerist stopping everytime there is an argument on Rifle Calibre. Considering I only own a 760 Gamemaster In 270win, You can see why, since I hunt all the Northwestern Ontario Big Game I can. Contrary to popular belief My 270 whomped a nice cow last year and nearly obliterated her shoulder at 150 yards out, I am confident with this rifle well out to 200 yards(core-lokt technology). Yes

What part of Ont are you from? And what cal do you shoot for moose?
Thumbs up

I've seen moose dropped with a 30-30 in the 100 yard range. Shot placement is the key obviously.........use a .270 myself ( sometimes) no problems.....also seen em' dropped with 32 win special, 300 savage and once with a 257 Roberts...course these days people would shudder at the thought of using these calibers....its go big or go home.. IMO that is................. Think

I would say thet the 30-06 is the smallest i would recommend to a new hunter for moose,I have seen a few elk shot with a 270 and they knocked em right down with middle shoulder shots,I would have no prblem taking one after moose. Thumbs up

30-06 is a wise choice. Not to say a 308 wouldn't do just as well.

the minimum for moose should be at least a 7mm-08 for a clean ethical kill. I've seen a moose killed by a 12 gauge using # 12 00 buckshot. Dropped it in its tracks

honestly i have seen and been witness to one of my grandfathers old indians friends drop a mosse one shot with a 22 magnum its the gun you hafta trust and yourself to make the shot not to say he wasnt lucky but he dropped it i think that all of us have our own views and i honestly think if you trust your gun and ammunition you should use it dont change just because you heard something about another gun ya try it out see if you like it and all and if you do then do what you choose but my guns i use have all been passed down thru my family for generations and i dont plan on retiring them till they dont fire anymore i actually have 2 brand new guns and the only place they have been is the range lol.

I believe it. Although I did not witness it I do know a (now departed) old timer back home who claims to have done the same. He was known for a lot of things, but BS wasn't one of them.

"You just gotta shoot 'im between the 3rd and 4th rib" was his explanation for how he did it. If only we all had that level of markamanship.

This is same guy that in the days of very little money used to get together with three friends, and each would put in a third of the cost of a bottle of store bought whiskey. They'd light the heads of matches with a .22 - miss and you're out. Winner got the bottle. (This I have seen).

I also know that in our local area of N Sask (excluding the .303) the 30-30 has killed more moose than anything. You just have to be a good enough hunter and woodsman to get close enough to do it, and a good enough marksman to call your shot exactly.

I would not agrue that one minute i know for a fact alot of moose up here have been taken but ill bet the 30-30 is the best and most widely used deer gun we have up here because of its ability to shoot thru the thickets and brush and the guy i was talkin about was a native canadian guy about 33 when he did it and it was one shot in the head from about 100 feet out of a canoe.
