Is the Merriams Elk really gone in the wild?

Merriams Elk

Are these elk really gone from the southwest or are they really the  of western New Mexico, boot hill of Texas and all of Arizona elk we now today??  Of all of the elk sub spiecies, the Merriams were the biggest fallow by Rocky Mountian, Rosevelt, and then the small tule.

I don't belive they are all gone!

The Merriam elk has been

The Merriam elk has been extienct since 1906.  As far as size the Manitoban elk whiched lived on the plains and into Canada had the largest body mass but its antlers were smaller than the Rocky Mountain elk, and it has been gone since 1900.
