marlin 444p

Ive got a marlin 444p I have had this gun for a few years as a saddle gun when we pack and ride in bear country. I was curious if anyone knows what it might be worth I saw one on gun broker that was up to 790 and still hadnt met the reserve. dont get me wrong I dont want to get rid of it but I didnt think it was worth that much. I know that they dont make it any more.

ps I havent killed any thing but pumpkins with it oh and one coyote at about 15 feet. I was wanting to hunt whitetail with it this year and I was wondering if anyone could give me insite on this if I would just ruin the whole front end or if it would be okay.

I've never shot a deer with a .444, but it seems to me that it'd be fine. There are a lot of calibers that would be far worse for ruining meat, because shock destroys more meat than the bullet. Any round will ruin shoulders if you connect there, but faster rounds destroy a lot more meat through hydrostatic shock than slower ones.

Value is highly dependent on condition with a rapid drop off from mint. Its possible that a 444P in pristine condition may top $700+ to a collector, but I would expect most used 444p to fall far short of that mark. Just my 2cents.

if u shoot behind the front leg ,the bullet will take out both lungs [big exit hole] but no meat loss .

sometimes a picture is worth a thousand words ......

no offense but I know where a deers vitals and shoulder are located.
I have been hunting for a long time and know what a good shot looks like.

I was asking if I should keep or sell the rifle not how to shoot it.
