Marine's not welcome in Berkeley, CA

The liberal City Council of Berkeley, CA has voted to tell the Marines their downtown recruiting station is not welcome and "if recruiters choose to stay, they do so as uninvited and unwelcome guests." The measure passed by a vote of 8-1.

The council also voted to explore enforcing a city anti-discrimination law. Focusing on the military's "don't ask, don't tell" policy, they want to sue them for sexual harassment.

This same council also voted (once again 8-1) to give the protest group Code Pink a parking space in front of the recruiting office once a week for six months and a free sound permit for protesting once a week.

"I believe in the Code Pink cause. The Marines don't belong here, they shouldn't have come here, and they should leave," said Berkeley Mayor Tom Bates.

Code Pink is circulating petitions to get a measure on the ballot in November making it more difficult to open military recruiting offices in Berkeley if they are near homes, parks, schools, churches, libraries or health clinics.

I just wonder who they think is protecting their bleeding heart, liberal, pacifist, whining behinds. How many Marine's have shed their blood in order for them to have the freedom to cast their votes. THIS REALLY TICKS ME OFF!

There's only one thing that ticks me off about Berkley. They haven't turned it into a giant parking lot yet!

It ain't over yet. No sooner did debate start in Washington about eliminating earmarks and federal spending headed for Berkeley than the city decided to reconsider its stance.

If they did, then where would all those strung out brain fried hippies (who live in the campus vegitation) make a home? Laugh

Some how I can't picture the Marines doing a booming business there anyway. If I were in the Marines I'm not sure I would want any of those brain dead amphibious slime watching my back any way. Yuk!

Are you kidding? We're in the middle of urban warfare. Somebody has to be the first one to walk down the alley, go through the door, etc. No need to have them in back -- put 'em in the front all the way.

Got no problem with that just don't want to have to depend on one of them when the going gets tough.
