Welcome to the site.

We also need to know what area you wish to focus on. Also, are you out for meat, or horns? I ask, because if you dom't care about huge horns, and want to self guide, then you may want to look at parts of southwestern Colorado. From what I've seen, Colorado has some of the best public land, 4 or 5 available seasons, and pretty liberal with over the counter tags. If you just want meat, you should be able to hook up with a cow tag, and find somewhere to hunt without any problem.

Thanks for the replys. I hunt rifle and bow for white tail in alabama .
I.ve just purchested a savage .338 cal w m. and have started shooting at
range out to 350yard. long distance shooting is fun but for hunting i like to stalk in close.
as far as location the state is as close as i've come NM 1st MT 2nd and CO always because of numbers.
meat i can always shoot big horns nice just in the woods can't put a price on that.

If you want to do it with a bow, you can look at one of my favorite units, 15 in SW New Mexico. For the Rifle deal- tags are harder to come by but look at the 16’s and 44/45 some great elk for rifle.

Elk hey? Get ready to start booking for every year because you will be hooked after one time out. I also like the 15 and 16s in NM. They call them Gila Monsters over there. Start getting your legs and lungs in shape now, no matter where you go. Speaking of go, I need to go finish packing gear for my son's bull hunt in AZ unit 8 this week! He is looking for something to show up old dad. Hope he does it.

Ditto what MBird and fulldraw say, I went to NM 44/45 had a great hunt but didn't fill tag. Passed on 6 smaller bulls for a couple monster herd bulls. On em for a few days without blowing them, the treaspassers on the place did it for me. Still had awesome time and am going back in 09 .Different outfitter, full guide,Gila. I want to get my first bull in 30 years out of the way so I can get on with just plain elk hunting. Oh yeah, I got a late CA. cow tag this week... like they said ,Your Hooked, just took 30 years to reset in me.
