M56 (The Grand Teton to CO wolverine) at it again!

M56, the intrepid Gulo that made the trek down from Grand Teton was photographed again in CO. It was varified as M56 from his characteristic chest markings and from a corresponding flight checking his location. His internal transmitter is still functional but it shouldn't last too much longer. According to comrades in the CPW, he has been relentlessly covering alpine ground in the state in search of a potential mate. The fact that he hasn't settled in to a traditional home range (still over 240 sq miles in one Idaho study) is not a good sign. It probably means that he hasn't found a female and that he is destined to wander and wander until he dies.... unless CPW reintroduces.

One thing's for certain... the guy who got the pic should buy a lotto ticket!

amazing

Blows me away how much ground some of these guys cover.  Was talking to some of the guys involved with the mountain lion research who have documented some crazy long distance moves.  One of the lions trapped here on the Front Range is now living in Mexico

That is quite the trek! Did you happen to catch how long it took to cover that distance??

The cougar that went from South Dakota to Connecticut still boggles my mind.

That's funny bc I was talking to either Matt or someone else about two months ago and they told me about the Kansas cat... that's crazy that it ended up heading down to Tequillaville!

Thats awesome!!! I feel like the lower 48 should work on recovering the wolverine population instead of them lobos. I've seen one wolverine and that was in the Rock Creek hunt area in Montana. Kinda seems like the wolverine is being forgotten more and more every year.
