lost and need help

hello everyone this is my first post......

i am new to colorado army just moved me here and I want to try some big game out. good on guns and ammo been hunting since i was 12 only 26 now but i know a little.

problem is I missed the draw date for tags and now all that is left is OTC and leftover when they go on sale, there is a lot of elk tags left for areas 25,26 but thats it then there are a bunch of bear tags left....

questions are how do I get otc bear tags, can I get them with out having a tag for something else?

is there likely going to be leftover tags for mulies and speed goats??

and what are the last resorts for hunting big game around here or am I SOL

by the way I already have several areas to hunt for speed goat and mulies so im good there and I think i can manage hunting elk up in those areas but is it smart for me to make my first trip up there with out ever hunting them before ?

thank you and good hunting

Welcome to BGH,
By missing the draw, you also miss out on the leftover draw. Later this month, the final list will come out with what elk and deer tags are available. There likely won't be any antelope tags that are not private land only. The reason you can buy 25,26 cow tags right now is because they are the only ones available as OTC with a cap. You can also buy the OTC tag also. OTC isn't the worst option in the world, as they are unlimited and you can hunt most of Western Colorado with one. But I personally don't care for hunting 2nd or 3rd season elk, but if you pin me down I'd take the 3rd season. You may want to see what is left for 1st or third season before making a decision. I don't believe you can have an OTC bear tag without having an elk or deer tag for the same area, but I'm not sure because I've never bought one.
Anyway, you're definitely not SOL, there will be leftover cow elk tags, plus a handful of underwhelming deer tags(much harder to get than a good elk tag as they are more tightly managed, plus we had a big winter kill in 07 that the DOW is just realizing). You're just going to have to wait a few more weeks to really map out your options. But you can always can on the OTC bull tag for either 2nd or 3rd season.

There is seperate OTC tags for archery and 2nd and 3rd seasons.

the OTC tags are good for all the units listed. not just one specific unit. for example I will have and OTC archery tag and one weekendend we are headed to Pagosa Springs down south and then later in season I am heaed to the Steamboat Springs area.

I meant to say 1st and 4th season not 1st and third. If you truly believe you can and will hunt both weekends of second season, or are willing to hunt the second weekend of second season, that is the only time I would buy that tag.
