i have never bear hunted nor my wife but we ar interested in trying it. not looking for huge trophy bear just something we could be proud of. this would not be an anual thing, due to the expence so we are just looking for a decent priced hunt hopefully under 1000, so if anyone has any info that would be great

Maine could be your best bet for that price. I would spend a little more and go with an outfitter with a good reputation. $1200 to $1400 will put you in good bear habitat with a few of the guides. Where are you from?

Also look into Maine. I hunted both Canada and Maine, Maine is going to be a little more money.

i live in southeast nebraska, and yes travel can be a factor. I don't even know if i will hunt this is a dream of my wifes to kill a black bear so thinking of a aniversary gift possibly. I would like to hunt but two bears, and a taxidermy bill for two might hit the pocket book a little hard.

Wow, Mr Middle of the country.

kind of out of my geographic area. I know they do shoot some nice bears in Colorado but do not know if baiting is allowed. Baiting is going to give you the greates advantage in a strange place for taking a bear. Colorado is not that far for you so I would begin my search there.

I am a big fan of hunting up in Canada and your best bet there would be Manitoba or Western Ontario.

I do not have any recomendations for outfitters since it is out of my usual stomping grounds. Still this is where I would begin my searches.

May even be something up in Wis or MI ?

Hunting Manitoba

Been in Manitoba for a long time now. Have guided with Trapper Mikes in Thompson Manitoba and with Sunset Eagle outfitters in Leaf rapids both are great. Others such as All terrain, Burntwood outfitters and a host of others are great as well. Big Bears here in Northern Manitoba, most hunts over baits. here's one bear I Iove , it's from my game camera.

Some outfitters have excellent prices but feed you weiner soup and bread so take things slow and check out any outfitter you are looking at.

When it comes to taxidermy don't skimp as this is a trophy and memories for life. Most take about a year to complete from a good taxidermist so you can save up over that year.

Hope your wife gets a nice one and good for you to try and make it possible

$1000 ain't going to buy you much in way of guide these days--me I'm try for tag in MN--then lease bait station from local-- fairly good chance of getting a bear at bargain prices--also could try Wi if not in a hurry as getting a kill tag can take 8 yrs.
