OK,
I am wondering,"how sensitive will bears be if I am hunting within 1/2 of my house"?
Last Sunday Morning my wife and I were having coffee sitting on the couch looking out the window when we saw a bear within 150 yards of our fence.
If I bait this bear, how much impact will scent have on this bruin since he is regularly so close to humans?
Next, I live in NW Minnesota, I live in the NO Quota Zone (meaning I can tag 2 bears with 1 lic. ). I had a neighbor (3-1/2 miles away as the crow flies) tell me they had a bear out in there yard 4 days ago, they went out after the bear left to see if they could track it to see where it might have gone. The lady's husband found some tracks in the dirt road left by this particular bear, and measured it. The track measured 13 inches from the tip of the claws, to the heel of the pad. Since this is my first year hunting bears, and I am not familuar with these animals, I was wondering does a 13 inch paw print mean this is a BIG bear or is that about average for a 200-250 pound bear?

Thanks for your responses!!!

He measured the back foot. He needs to measure the front pad across it. Have no idea on a back foot like that.

You are right. You need to measure the front paw across to get an idea of size. I have found that rear paw size doesn't seem to be a factor on overall weight.
As for the distance from the house.... That shouldn't matter. They are probably used to human scent. As you set the bait they will get even more used to your scent.
Shoot em up!
